Through words and images, children and young people can enter unknown worlds, meet characters different from themselves, approach emotions that are difficult to express, and imagine possibilities that do not yet belong to their everyday experience. <strong data-start=\"392\" data-end=\"423\">Picture books for children<\/strong>, in particular, possess a special richness: <strong data-start=\"479\" data-end=\"553\">text and images dialogue, complement each other, and sometimes contradict one another<\/strong>, leaving the reader precious space to observe, interpret, and imagine.  <\/p><p data-start=\"640\" data-end=\"1140\">When <strong data-start=\"651\" data-end=\"699\">picture books meet Educational Yoga<\/strong>, the story can take a further step. What has been heard or observed can be experienced through <strong data-start=\"821\" data-end=\"901\">the body, movement, breath, play, imagination, and relationship<\/strong>. A character can suggest a quality to explore, a journey can become a bodily experience, an image can accompany a visualization, and a narrative situation can open reflection on emotions or relationships.  <\/p><p data-start=\"1142\" data-end=\"1581\">In this way, <strong data-start=\"1160\" data-end=\"1190\">children&#8217;s literature<\/strong> does not simply represent a pleasant introduction to practice, nor does it serve to &#8220;disguise&#8221; yoga to make it more interesting to children. If chosen and used with intentionality, <strong data-start=\"1380\" data-end=\"1447\">the story can become a true guiding thread of the experience<\/strong> and offer Educational Yoga practice a narrative framework capable of connecting <strong data-start=\"1534\" data-end=\"1580\">body, thought, emotions, and awareness<\/strong>. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element we think of a children&#8217;s book, we might be led to imagine a simple text accompanied by a few pictures. The picture book is instead <strong data-start=\"2273\" data-end=\"2310\">a much more complex language<\/strong>, in which words, images, narrative rhythm, page composition, colors, and even what is left unsaid all participate in the construction of meaning. <\/p><p data-start=\"2485\" data-end=\"2834\">The image, in fact, does not only have the task of showing what the text tells. It can add information, suggest an emotion, anticipate what will happen, create a contrast, or leave an interpretation open. This is why <strong data-start=\"2726\" data-end=\"2769\">a good picture book can be read multiple times<\/strong> and continue to offer new details, connections, and questions.  <\/p><p data-start=\"2836\" data-end=\"3374\"><strong data-start=\"2839\" data-end=\"2869\">Children&#8217;s literature<\/strong> should therefore not be considered exclusively as a tool for conveying a lesson or moral. It can be <strong data-start=\"3000\" data-end=\"3155\">a space in which to engage with different points of view, formulate hypotheses, imagine alternatives, and gradually construct one&#8217;s own thinking<\/strong>. The materials from which this exploration arises highlight precisely how a good book can offer educational possibilities that go beyond a simple didactic purpose.  <\/p><p data-start=\"3376\" data-end=\"3629\">This characteristic makes the picture book particularly interesting in <strong data-start=\"3463\" data-end=\"3481\">Educational Yoga<\/strong> as well, because both languages can open an experience without necessarily needing to define it in advance in all its meanings.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-0d960d6 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"0d960d6\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-1f3190f\" data-id=\"1f3190f\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c7d12da elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c7d12da\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why are picture books important in childhood?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2db713e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2db713e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"3693\" data-end=\"4000\">Reading or listening to a story means taking <strong data-start=\"3743\" data-end=\"3805\">a small journey outside one&#8217;s usual experience<\/strong>. For a few minutes we can see the world through the eyes of a character, wonder what they will do, imagine what might happen, and compare their experience with our own. <\/p><p data-start=\"4002\" data-end=\"4391\">This possibility of symbolically inhabiting different situations encourages <strong data-start=\"4079\" data-end=\"4146\">the construction of hypotheses and openness to different points of view<\/strong>. Often it is precisely <strong data-start=\"4512\" data-end=\"4558\">its empty spaces that make it interesting<\/strong>: what is that character thinking? Why did they make that choice? What might happen on the next page? What is the image not telling us?    <\/p><p data-start=\"4721\" data-end=\"5049\">In these passages the child is not a passive recipient, but <strong data-start=\"4785\" data-end=\"4828\">participates in the construction of the story<\/strong>. They imagine, connect, anticipate, interpret, and can formulate different solutions. We can pause on an image, anticipate what might happen, observe a character&#8217;s posture, imagine their thoughts, or let certain words return later in a game or bodily activity. <\/p><p data-start=\"7115\" data-end=\"7535\">The book can accompany the experience without having to dominate it. There are practices in which the narration can be present throughout the entire journey and others in which an image, a situation, or a question is sufficient. The picture book possesses a similar quality, because it brings together words, images, emotions, thoughts, and possibilities. <\/p><p data-start=\"8184\" data-end=\"8448\">The meeting between these two languages can therefore happen very naturally. <strong data-start=\"8264\" data-end=\"8329\">The story offers a symbolic framework within which to move<\/strong>, while Educational Yoga allows what has been imagined to be transformed into <strong data-start=\"8410\" data-end=\"8447\">a concrete and bodily experience<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"8450\" data-end=\"8747\">In pathways developed from picture books, this passage clearly emerges: after the reading, <strong data-start=\"8560\" data-end=\"8647\">the body enters the story through its multiple possibilities of expression<\/strong> and what was contained in the pages can become movement.<\/p><p data-start=\"8749\" data-end=\"9116\">This does not mean, however, literally representing every element of the story. The most interesting possibilities open up when we seek to understand which <strong data-start=\"8909\" data-end=\"8920\">qualities<\/strong> run through the story: <strong data-start=\"8945\" data-end=\"9050\">stability, lightness, trust, energy, waiting, fear, openness, collaboration, courage, curiosity<\/strong>. One can experiment with balance, the passage from activation to stillness, moving individually or together with others. What does its posture communicate?    <\/p><p data-start=\"10214\" data-end=\"10389\">Observations of this kind allow us to <strong data-start=\"10256\" data-end=\"10290\">move from image to body<\/strong> without necessarily having to create a literal association between each figure and a yoga position.<\/p><p data-start=\"10391\" data-end=\"10877\">Naturally <strong data-start=\"10408\" data-end=\"10417\">asana<\/strong> can enter the practice and some images can spontaneously suggest them. A tree, an animal, or an element of nature can become an immediate starting point. Does it make itself small? Might the breath be fast? If they subsequently find courage, what might change? Does the body open? Does the movement become more decisive?     <\/p><p data-start=\"12381\" data-end=\"12535\">Through the character we can approach an experience and, through practice, we can explore <strong data-start=\"12483\" data-end=\"12534\">how certain qualities are perceived in the body<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"12537\" data-end=\"12765\">It is not necessary to arrive at the conclusion &#8220;fear is this&#8221; or &#8220;to be brave we must do this.&#8221; It is much more interesting to let each person find <strong data-start=\"12704\" data-end=\"12764\">their own way of recognizing what they are experiencing<\/strong>. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d4861a9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d4861a9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The value of questions<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3db103a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3db103a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"12795\" data-end=\"12963\">In the meeting between <strong data-start=\"12813\" data-end=\"12849\">Educational Yoga and picture books<\/strong>, questions can play a very important role both during reading and in designing the activity.<\/p><p data-start=\"12965\" data-end=\"13268\">An <strong data-start=\"12969\" data-end=\"12987\">open question<\/strong> does not serve to verify whether the child has correctly understood the book. It can instead stimulate <strong data-start=\"13080\" data-end=\"13103\">curiosity and inquiry<\/strong>: what do you think might happen? What might this character be feeling? What does this image make you think? Is there another way of seeing the situation?    <\/p><p data-start=\"13270\" data-end=\"13616\">Those who design the practice can also use questions as <strong data-start=\"13331\" data-end=\"13362\">a tool for awareness<\/strong>: why did I choose this particular picture book? What experience do I wish to make possible? Am I using the book only as a backdrop or do the activities truly dialogue with the story? Which images or themes can return in the different phases of the Wave?   <\/p><p data-start=\"13618\" data-end=\"13840\">In the materials analyzed, asking questions is indicated precisely as a tool for <strong data-start=\"13707\" data-end=\"13801\">designing, focusing attention, and not settling for the first available solution<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"13842\" data-end=\"13964\">The question, therefore, <strong data-start=\"13862\" data-end=\"13914\">does not necessarily have to lead to an answer<\/strong>. It can simply set something in motion. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3efe941 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"3efe941\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How to choose a picture book for an Educational Yoga practice?<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7a6b5f1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7a6b5f1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"14039\" data-end=\"14257\">Not all <strong data-start=\"14053\" data-end=\"14084\">picture books for children<\/strong> need to become the starting point for a practice, just as it is not necessary to choose exclusively books that explicitly speak about yoga, meditation, or emotions.<\/p><p data-start=\"14259\" data-end=\"14641\">Often the most interesting stories are those <strong data-start=\"14305\" data-end=\"14334\">capable of leaving space<\/strong>. A narration about a journey can simultaneously speak of curiosity, fear, change, and relationships; a story about uniqueness can open reflections on diversity, comparison, and self-esteem; a story about friendship can also contain solitude, trust, conflict, and the ability to ask for help. <\/p><p data-start=\"14643\" data-end=\"14963\">Before proposing a book it can therefore be useful to <strong data-start=\"14694\" data-end=\"14764\">read it several times and know its images, rhythm, and possibilities well<\/strong>. It is important to ask which theme truly emerges, which parts have the greatest evocative power, how much time the reading requires, and in what way it can dialogue with the various phases of the experience. <\/p><p data-start=\"14965\" data-end=\"15478\"><strong data-start=\"14968\" data-end=\"14997\">Conscious design<\/strong> does not consist in knowing in advance what each child must understand. Rather, it means <strong data-start=\"15098\" data-end=\"15242\">clarifying the adult&#8217;s intention and preparing a structure solid enough to then be able to listen to what happens during practice<\/strong>. In the study materials, precisely the reasoned choice of the book, knowledge of its timing, and the way to present it are considered an integral part of designing the Wave.  <\/p><p data-start=\"14965\" data-end=\"15478\">Sometimes, in fact, a story leads the practice in a different direction from the one imagined.
