The “Ippolito Nievo” Primary School recently completed a cycle of Educational Yoga lessons. This program was introduced to address specific needs of the school, such as improving concentration, body awareness, and relationships among classmates. The main issues to be addressed included the need to improve mutual listening, emotion management, and cooperation among students.

The Educational Yoga program is designed to meet the specific needs expressed by the School, taking into account the age of the pupils.

We structured the course into five sessions. Each session included various moments: opening greeting song, initial welcome circle, games, breathing, visualization, yoga postures (asanas), contact game, massage, final sharing circle, and closing greeting song.

Each meeting also covered a specific theme.

Let’s analyze the individual meetings in detail!

First meeting: "Listening and Respect"

At the first meeting, we offered elementary school students some exercises to improve listening to themselves and others, promoting friendship and respect for rules and times.

Through specific games, we worked on mutual attention, with particular focus on respecting turns. Students were encouraged to pay attention to their own desires and support their classmates, creating a collaborative and enjoyable environment.

These exercises helped strengthen relationships and develop greater empathy among participants.

Second meeting: "Friendship and Joy"

During the second meeting, we proposed activities to develop empathy and encourage cooperation among the children. On this occasion, we facilitated mindful, gentle and kind contact.

Through specific exercises, children learn to perceive and understand their friends’ feelings. These activities help create an environment of sharing and mutual support, promoting feelings of friendship and joy within the group.

Third meeting: "Anger and Sadness"

In the third appointment we proposed to the children some techniques to release the tensions created in the body by frustrations and anger, creating the lightness needed to transform these negative feelings into positive ones, overcoming discomfort and sadness.

The release games and drawings are particularly effective in achieving this goal. Children were also encouraged to choose kind and thoughtful gestures to perform at school and at home, with everyone.

Fourth meeting: "Jealousy and Trust"

As part of this lesson, we proposed exercises to improve stability and confidence in oneself and others.

We improve stability and resilience to increase confidence in ourselves and others, creating new bonds of friendship.

Fifth Session: "Fear and Courage"

In the last meeting, we focused on activities to work on self-esteem and ways to cope with obstacles, improving harmony in the group.

On this occasion, we focused on strengthening self-confidence. We addressed various challenges individually, in pairs, and in groups to help students recognize and value their own abilities.

The goal was to promote acceptance of diversity and bring out everyone’s strengths, thus helping to improve well-being and cohesion within the group.

Reception, Participation, and Evaluation of Results

Students responded positively to the proposed activities. While some children found the activities more challenging, overall, the experience was exciting and rewarding.

The results of the Educational Yoga program were very positive. Improvements in student behavior and greater concentration ability were observed.

In addition, relationships among classmates have improved due to greater sensitivity and listening skills.

The feedback from teachers and parents was very positive. Teachers noted that the techniques learned during the program proved useful in regular lessons as well. Parents appreciated the innovative approach to improving their children’s well-being.

Implementation of the program presented some challenges, such as adapting yoga techniques to the school context and dealing with different student reactions.

However, these challenges have provided learning opportunities, allowing teachers to develop new teaching strategies.
